Faceoff: Can Modi government tackle India’s looming power crisis amidst coal shortage? | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI. The Prime Minister’s office (PMO) on Tuesday reviewed coal positions at thermal power stations as the government looked at ways to defuse the energy crisis being faced by several states, amid persistent worries over shortages and power supply disruptions.

PMO swung into action after several states reported alarmingly low coal stocks, and some resorted to load-shedding. The coal ministry has been asked to ramp up the supply of coal while railways has been asked to make available rakes to transport the fuel to power plants, the sources said.

Amidst this, opposition parties like NCP have trained its guns on Modi government holding it responsible for the current shortage of coal in the country.

While global coal shortage is being cited as one of the reasons behind India’s looming power crisis, netizens debated if the Modi government was competent enough to quickly normalize the situation.
